Cold process soap making: How to make salt bars - Green Clay & Avocado salt bar tutorial & r
Salt bars are incredibly luxurious yet relatively easy to make. They give a beautiful, rich lather that is almost lotion like and the added sea salt is fantastic for gently exfoliating and brightening the skin.
Our salt bars are essentially cold process soaps but with two essential ingredients. Those two ingredients are Salt and coconut oil. Our salt bars are made with a 2:1 ratio of oils to salt. That means for every 100g of oil we use, we add in 50g of sea salt. In the presence of such a high level of salt, the only oil that will still create a lather is coconut oil, so this oil really cannot be substituted.
We use 90% coconut oil in our recipe, but you can use anywhere from 70% right up to 100%. To combat the drying feel of coconut oil, a high superfat amount of 20% is used. This ensures that the finished soap is mild, gentle and non-drying. Our salt bars are without doubt one of the most popular lines that we stock.
We create 8 different varieties of salt bars and the on we are showing you today is our "Green Clay & Avocado" bar. This is created with a generous amount of green clay, 10% Avocado oil and it is scented with the incredibly beautiful blend of Patchouli and distilled Lime essential oils.
Salt bars harden up incredibly quickly, so we recommend pouring them into individual cavity moulds. If you choose to use a loaf mould just be aware that your soap may well be ready to cut into bars anywhere from 2 hours after making. Do not leave it overnight or it will be too firm to cut nicely!
