Early childhood development is crucial for the long-term health and wellbeing of our children. By the age of five, a child’s brain is 90% the size of an adult’s brain. Reading, singing and creative play during these years is essential for shaping young people’s emotional patterns for life, and for supporting learning, positive relationships and resilience.

This video features the work of the Art and Wonder: Young children and contemporary art, a research project run by the Museum of Contemporary Art, Australia, Macquarie University and the Mia Mia Child and Family Study Centre; and Thrive by Five, an initiative of the Minderoo Foundation. These two programs encourage the healthy development of young people through creativity and play, and are conducting important research and advocacy work in this area.
