Johnny Cash released "Folsom Prison Blues" in 1955 and a live version in 1968 which peaked at number 32 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Shortly after, composer Gordon Jenkins filed a lawsuit against Cash and Sun Records claiming "Folsom Prison Blues" sounded too similar to his song "Crescent City Blues" from 1953. Cash settled out of court and paid Jenkins less than $100,000.
