#EUClimateAndHealth Conference: High-level opening session
The opening of the EU Climate and Health conference featured opening remarks from Her Excellency Zakia Khattabi (Belgian Minister of Climate, Environment, Sustainable Development and Green Deal), a keynote speech from Maroš Šefčovič (Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for the European Green Deal, Interinstitutional Relations and Foresight) and a panel discussion led by Marc Lemaître (Director-General for Research and Innovation, European Commission). The panellists included Kurt Vandenberghe (Director-General for Climate Action, European Commission), Omnia El Omrani (Policy Fellow at Imperial College London, Youth Envoy to COP27 President and COP28 Health Envoy), Her Excellency Khumbize Chiponda (Malawian Minister of Health), Jeremy Farrar (Chief Scientist of the World Health Organisation), Sandra Gallina (Director-General for Health and Food Safety, European Commission) and Leena Ylä-Mononen (Executive Director, European Environment Agency). This session took place on 19 February 2024 and was moderated by Hajar Yagkoubi.
