One leading cause of the bone-loss disease osteoporosis is hyperparathyroidism, which can be treated by surgery or drugs. New research now shows that surgery leads to fewer fractures, while commonly used prescription drugs called bisphosphonates can actually increase the risk of fracture, worse than doing nothing at.
